Our Story

Welcome to High Plains Knot Work! We opened in November 2013. James had been working with paracord and rope for a few months…he started making bracelets, zipper pulls, key chains and other things for family and friends…and he made several decorative rope knots for me…we never really thought about making it a business until a friend saw those knots and encouraged us to open a shop. So here we are and enjoying every minute of it! We carry a variety of nautical home décor and paracord gift items. However, our specialty is a unique collection of decorative rope knots that you won’t find anywhere else! We are always looking for creative ways to add a unique touch to our products! What started out as a hobby has turned into our passion!

HPKW is run out of our home and was originally located in the high plains of Montana…In May 2018 we relocated our shop to beautiful middle Tennessee. James is, who I like to call, “the knot worker” and I create the signs you see, stencil and paint the knots and handle the business end of things…together we make quite a team!

You can find us on a variety of social media sites to include Facebook and Pinterest. However, Instagram is quickly becoming our site of choice. We enjoy the interaction and support we receive from our followers.

We strive to create the best quality products for you and your home… All of our items are hand made and as a result may have slight imperfections. However, we will not send anything out the door that we would not be proud to carry or display in our own home. Our customers and fan base are very important to us and we thank each one of you for your support!

You can read our shop policies here.

James and I met in the fall of 1988 at Torrejon AB Spain while serving in the US Air Force and got married in March 1989. We have 2 grown children and 3 amazing grandchildren!
We ended up in Northern Montana for work and lived there for 14 years. In 2018 we took a leap of faith, left our very secure job and moved back to our home state of Tennessee in order to run High Plains Knot Work full time!
